Week 4, About Yahoo!

Yahoo is a famous search engine. Yahoo has a lot of sub-site to serve any users who are in any continent. For example, sub-site like Yahoo HK, Yahoo UK or Yahoo Greece etc. I found something interesting related to their difference between Yahoo HK and Yahoo.com.

I tried to use W3C CSS Validation Service to check Yahoo HK and Yahoo.com these two sites. The results of Yahoo HK appear as invalidates and Yahoo.com appear as validates.

I suppose in the same organization have same requirements, regulations, guidelines or rules to design this web. Although the outlook of these two web pages seems similar but the standards between them consist lots of dissimilarity. I think culture is the major point to distinguish both web sites. Western culture emphasizes the standard or guiding the rules or procedures to work. But Hong Kong culture is opposite.

Week 3, Encourage government to use web standards

If we talk about web standard before 1999, this is not an important thing and has not a large of people know the significance. Nowadays, we can use many difference kinds of browsers to browse the web pages. Therefore, the web standard is the key things about the web page can show the best viewed on the browsers.
Ex-Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Mr Tung Chee Hwa said "Delay No More"(與時並進). But our government's web site is not use the web standard. The government encourages people to use the E-service, and the government provides many E- services, for instance, e-Stamping of Property Document or appointment booking for smart ID card etc... But the web site is not usability and accessibility. I think our government need to use the web standards, accessibility and web design methodology to re-design the web page.

  • Web standards (Using the web standards can avoid the web page become chaotic and useless)
  • Increased accessibility (For instance, the web site can show to a difference devices)
  • Smaller downloads (Increasing the loading time, it is because the government have many information to provide for people)
  • User friendly (The web site can easy to use by the user)

Week 2, CSS Layout

Hello everybody, this is my first post to share my learning experience. In this week, I will present Max Design.

This web promotes about the web standard and teaches people how to facilitate the web standard. The web is step by step to teach people building a full CSS layout. If you can follow the step, I think you will understand more and practice about CSS concept. That will be easy to grasp CSS. The web has other sites about commercial, government and organizations design. You can see a difference style in difference kind of organization.
However, I think this web design company's design and color can not attract people. The web category is not clear.
